Uptown (Korean: 업타운) is a pioneering South Korean hip-hop group formed in 1997, originally featuring Chris Jung, Carlos Galvan, Steve Kim, and Tasha Reid. Known for bringing a Westernized style to Korean hip-hop, Uptown gained popularity with their unique sound and impactful lyrics. However, in 2000, the group disbanded following drug charges against Jung, Galvan, and Kim, leading Reid to pursue a solo career. Uptown reemerged in 2006 without Reid, releasing the album Testimony and adding young rapper Jessica H.O. to the lineup. The group continued to evolve with their 2009 album New Era, where Jung was joined by new members Maniac, Snacky Chan, and Swings. Following the release of Surprise! in 2010, the group went on an extended hiatus. In 2023, Uptown made a comeback with original member Chris Jung joined by new members Ru.B and Babylon, introducing a fresh era for the iconic group. Known for their extensive discography, including albums like Represent (1997), Absolute Power (1998), and New Era (2009).
