Born in Switzerland on March 4, 1994, Jephté Mbisi has distinguished himself in the musical sphere through several pseudonyms, from Varnish La Piscine to Pink Flamingo. A fan of Pharrell Williams when he discovered him as a teenager, Varnish La Piscine began composing on his computer, where he mixed the many influences he accessed on the Internet. As he developed his artistic skills, Varnish quickly became part of the new Swiss rap scene, mainly in Geneva, which included Makala, Di-Meh and Slimka. The rapper soon made a name for himself, embracing influences as varied as Stereolab, Jamiroquai, Pharrell Williams and Tyler, The Creator, and adding a cinematic dimension to his productions. The rapper presents a first project, Escape (F+R Prelude) in 2016, where already the Swiss man is developing his narrative desires. Varnish La Piscine produces, notably for Makala, or appears as a featuring on Slimka's track "Wes Anderson". The track, an explicit reference to a director he loves, is followed in 2019 by Le Regard Qui Tue, the rapper's second major project. Then, in 2020, his love of cinema takes shape with a medium-length film, Les Contes Du Cockatoo, imagined and directed by Varnish, accompanied by a soundtrack that serves as a second album, Twist Amazone. Increasingly recognized and acclaimed by critics and fans alike for his broad artistic palette, Varnish La Piscine confirms the expectations placed in him with the presentation, in 2023, of Ce Lac A Du Succès, a series produced by the rapper and accompanying the release of a fourth musical project, This Lake Is Successful.
