Even before the Vengaboys caused a sensation in the pop mainstream, the two beat makers Dennis van den Driesschen and Wessel van Diepen performed as a DJ duo under the name from the early to mid-1990s. The transformation into a Eurodance band took place in 1996, when three female singers joined the project: Kim Sasabone, Olivia Ovington and Rachel Carpenter, who immediately entered the Dutch singles charts at number 14 with "Parada de Tettas" (1997). Their debut album was released in 1998: The Party Album became an international hit and not only reached the top 10 in Great Britain and the Netherlands, but also made a name for itself in the United States with an 86th place in the Billboard 200. Releases such as "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and "We're Going to Ibiza" became number 1 tracks in the Netherlands and the UK the following year, but also achieved considerable top 10 success in Germany. Shortly after the turn of the millennium, the Vengaboys, who now also include Denise Post-Van Rijswijk, Roy den Burger and Yorick Bakker, present The Platinum Album (2000). The album, which made it into the top 5 of the LP charts in several European countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland and won several gold records, included smash tracks such as "Shalala Lala" and "Uncle John from Jamaica". The group, which withdrew from the public eye after the hype surrounding its first two albums but continued to exist in the club underground, released a compilation opus in 2011 with The Best of Vengaboys, as well as the Christmas opus Xmas Party Album! (2014) and further singles, including "Supergeil" (2016) and "Up and Down", which was released in 2020.
