Born on March 19, 1975 in Taichung, Taiwan, Vivian Hsu kickstarted her career in showbiz after winning the Talented Beautiful Girl contest held by Taiwan's CTS in 1990. Following her win, she joined the trio Girls' Team that same year and released two albums in 1991 and 1992 before the group split up. Hsu completed a number of modeling jobs and released her first full-length album, Tianshi Xiang (天使想) in 1996, accompanied by a Korean version titled Cheonsa Misonyeo (天使美少女). The following year, Hsu joined the Black Biscuits and released a run of singles over their two-year lifespan, including the hit 1998 single "Timing". Prior to the creation of Tianshi Xiang, multilingual Hsu had taken a speed course in Korean. Two more solo albums followed; Da Mafan (大麻煩) in 1998, and Bubai de Lianren (不敗の戀人) in 1999, which received a Japanese translation in 2000; Fuhai no Koibito. A prolific solo artist, over the next decade Hsu went on to release 14 more albums, including 2020's I'm V, as well as appearing as an actress in movies like the 2001 film The Accidental Spy with Jackie Chan. She has also notched up an impressive number of songwriting credits over the years.
