While pursuing careers as child actors, American songwriters Braeden Lemasters and Dylan Minnette began performing with drummer Cole Preston as teenagers in 2011. Following several name changes, the Los Angeles, California-based pop rock band changed its name to Wallows in 2017 and celebrated the new moniker with the release of Wallows' debut single, "Pleaser." A viral hit, "Pleaser" attracted the attention of Atlantic Records, who signed Wallows and released their debut EP, Spring, in 2018. The EP featured the gold-certified single "These Days" and was followed by 2019's Nothing Happens, a full-length album that reached number 75 on the Billboard 200, number 8 on Billboard's Top Alternative Albums, and number 13 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums. Pop singer Clairo appeared on the album's biggest hit, "Are You Bored Yet?," which hit number 2 on the American Alternative Airplay chart and went double-platinum. The song also achieved gold status in Australia and the UK. After releasing a second EP, Remote, in 2020, Wallows returned in 2022 with another full-length album, Tell Me That It's Over. "Especially You," the album's biggest single, reached number 25 on Alternative Airplay, marking Wallows' third time cracking the Top 40 on that chart. Wallows’ 2024 album Model nudged into the Top 30 on the Billboard 200 but hit number 7 on the Rock Albums chart. The album was also an international success, hitting the charts in France and Hungary for the first time and landing in the Top 40 in the UK.
