Wardruna

Championing the dark folk legacy and Nordic legends of his native Norway, Bergen-born multi-instrumentalist Einar "Kvitrafn" Selvik (November 18th, 1979,) formed the Wardruna project in 2003. Taking its namesake from proto-Norse runic symbols, the group – fleshed out by Lindy Fay Hella (vocals, guitar) and Gaahl (vocals) – soon began developing their frosted acoustic, neo-pagan sound, incorporating an array of traditional percussion and wind instruments including goat horn and deer-hide frame drums. Their debut album, Runaljod – Gap Var Ginnunga, landed in January 2009 on Norway's Indie Recordings, followed by second album Runaljod - Yggdrasil in March 2013. Original Wardruna compositions were featured in the second season of Vikings in 2014, which helped to widen their audience, and Einar Selvik was also cast as an actor on the snow. Following Gaahl's friendly departure from the band in 2015, they released their third album, Runaljod – Ragnarok, in October 2016, which shot to number one on Billboard's World Albums chart. Their fourth album Skald arrived after a North American tour in 2018 and they signed to Sony Music/Columbia Records in 2019, releasing their fifth studio album, Kvitravn ("white raven"), in January 2021.
