Conceived by two siblings of mixed Asian-British heritage, Olivia Hardy (vocals/guitar) and William Gao (keyboards/piano), alt-pop duo Wasia Project formed in 2019 and stepped out with their debut single "Why Don't U Love Me," released that same year. Channelling a fusion of jazz, pop, and classical, the pair honed their sound further on their debut 2022 EP How Can I Pretend? and the following year released the single "Petals on the Moon" via LaoLao Records /AWAL. They took their career up a notch in 2023 with a placement of "Ur So Pretty" on the second season of Heartstopper and released their second EP Isotope in 2024.
