Willie Peyote is the pseudonym of Italian rapper and singer-songwriter Guglielmo Bruno. His stage name is a combination of the cartoon character Wile E. Coyote and peyote, a psychoactive cactus that can be found in North America. Born on August 29, 1985 in Turin to music-loving parents, Willie Peyote soon developed a taste for rock and punk, and discovered hip-hop during his teenage years. In 2004, he founded the rap collective S.O.S. Clique alongside Kavah and Shula, who released the EP L’erbavoglio in 2008. Following a series of EPs titled Manuale del giovane nichilista in 2011 and 2012, Willie Peyote made his official debut with 2013’s Non è il mio genere, il genere umano, issued via the label ThisPlay Urban. The heavily autobiographical Educazione sabauda arrived in 2015 and was followed by Sindrome di Tôret (2017), which reached Number 8 on the Italian Albums Chart with its eclectic melange of rap, jazz, and funk. Preceded by the single “La tua futura ex moglie,” Iodegradabile saw the light in 2019 and entered the Top 5 in Italy. After postponing the album’s promotional tour due to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Willie Peyote released the charity single “Ogni giorno alle 18” to help raise funds for Turinese hospitals and participated in the 2021 Sanremo Music Festival with the song “Mai dire mai (la locura)” which earned the critic’s choice award despite finishing in sixth place.
