Mateo Professione (November 29, 1993), aka Ernia, is an Italian MC from Milan. He is mostly known for being one of the founding members of the hip-hop collective Troupe D’Elite, with whom he released two albums before calling it quits in 2014. Shortly after leaving the group, Ernia abandoned his studies and relocated to London, where he lived for five months. Upon his return to Italy, he kicked off his solo career with the 2017 album Come Uccidere un Usignolo, whose title was inspired by Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. The LP entered the Italian Top 5 and was certified platinum by FIMI. Featuring numerous literary references and heavily influenced by conscious hip-hop, his sophomore effort 68 arrived in 2018 and quickly rose to the top of the charts in his native Italy, obtaining platinum certification. More success followed in 2020 with the advent of his third full-length Gemelli, which went to Number 1 on the Italian charts and spawned the smash hit “Superclassico.” A deluxe edition titled Gemelli (Ascendente Milano) saw the light in 2021 and featured the track “Di Notte,” an infectious pop-rap track featuring Sfera Ebbasta and Carl Brave that reached Number 17 on FIMI’s singles chart.
