Young Skinny, a Japanese four-member rock band, formed in Tokyo on August 15, 2020. The band's lead, Kayayu, initially a solo singer-songwriter used social media to recruit his bandmates. Gonzales, Ryouto and Shion joined the band. Shortly after forming, they gained rapid attention by topping the Weekly Artist & Songs Ranking on the music streaming site "Eggs" in December 2020. The band's first demo, released in January 2021, sold out in just a minute, indicating their rising popularity. Their momentum continued in February 2021 with the release of the music video for "Sekai ga Boku wo Kirai ni Natte mo" ("Even If the World Hates Me"), which resonated widely on social media, where videos featuring their music saw a significant increase. The origin of their band name, "Young Skinny," comes from a poster they spotted in the studio during their first meeting, which they adopted as a memorable and defining label for their group. Their release, BOYS & GIRLS (2024) continues to build on their distinctive blend of energetic rock and introspective lyrics.
