Yuna Ito is an American-born singer-songwriter mostly active in Japan. She was born on September 20, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, to a South Korean mother and Japanese father, and grew up in Oahu, Hawaii. After graduating from McKinley High School in 2001, she moved to Japan in 2003. Her breakthrough came in 2005 when she was cast as Reira Serizawa in the film adaptation of the manga series Nana. She released her debut single "Endless Story" under the character's name. The song soared to the number 2 position on the Oricon charts. This was followed by successful singles such as "Faith/Pureyes," "Precious," and "Truth," the latter being used as a theme for Nana 2 where she reprised her role as Serizawa. 2007 was an important year for Yuna Ito's career, with the release of her debut album Heart, which topped the Oricon Albums Chart and earned a double-platinum certification. Yuna Ito's rise to prominence continued with her duet "Anata ga Iru Kagiri: A World to Believe In" with Celine Dion in 2008, earning a nomination for Best Collaboration Video at the MTV Video Awards Japan. Her second album, Wish (2008), was certified gold, and it was followed by Dream the following year. In 2009, Yuna Ito performed the song "t r u s t y o u," the ending theme for season 2 of Mobile Suit Gundam. After a brief hiatus, she made a return in 2019, performing at the 40th-anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam.
