Real name Zacharie Morier-Gxoyiya, Canadian rapper Zach Zoya was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, on April 8, 1998. The son of a South African emigrant who fled apartheid and a Canadian woman, he became interested in rap as a teenager through the radio, and decided to leave the region to settle in Montreal, aiming for a musical career. Hired by the label 7ème Ciel, Zach Zoya recorded his first tracks and a five-track EP, Misstape (2018), before being invited to the "Nuit du hip-hop", during the Festival des musiques émergentes in his home town. While the Covid-19 pandemic reduced concerts to nothing, the rapper recorded the Spectrum EP (2020), from which the singles "Surplee", "Le Cap" and "In da Way" were taken. Several other English-language trap tracks followed in 2021, including "Start Over", which reached No. 10 on the CHR Top 40, a Canadian radio chart. His debut album No Love Is Ever Wasted, released in 2022, also included the track "Upper Hand", which reached No. 31 on the same chart.
