Alain Turban

Born in Paris to an Eastern European family on December 14, 1947, Alain Turban grew up in the Montmartre district, then in the Paris suburbs. Author, composer, pianist and performer, he recorded his first albums at the turn of the 1970s for various labels and moved to Ardèche, where he ran his own discotheque, Sagitarius. Attracted by the disco craze, he took the pseudonym Allain and enjoyed success with titles such as "Quatrième dimension " (1978), "Santa Monica" (1979) and "L'Amour et la nuit " (1980). In 1981, he returned to singing under his own name, signing successively with the Tréma and Philips labels for a series of singles including "On s'écrivait... Annie" (1983), written by Didier Barbelivien, and, in 1990, the album Pony, from which are taken "Go Homme", "Comme un voleur " and "Le Paradis c'est l'enfer". The album gave its name to the Pony Music label he set up in 1987, under which his subsequent productions were released. After several European tours, his style took a nostalgic turn and, following a tribute to Jean Marais in the song "Jean d'ici, Jean d'ailleurs" (1991), the albums Les Racines du Futur (1997), Turbanovitch (1999), Chanter l'Ardèche (1999), Poulbot (2007), À l'Orient de Rancourt (2016), Piano la Vie (live, 2017) and Éternelle (2021) recall his Slavic origins, his childhood years and his success in the 1980s. At the same time, Alain Turban continues to perform in Parisian venues such as the Casino de Paris, La Cigale and L'Européen, as well as in less expected places like the Médrano circus and the Moulin-Rouge, before an Olympia in 2013 for the show La Légende de Montmartre. In 2010 and the following year, he took part in the Âge tendre et têtes de bois tour, then in 2017, with Gilles Dreu and Jean Sarrus from Les Charlots, formed the trio Les Vieilles Fripouilles, modeled on the Vieilles Canailles of Johnny Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell and Jacques Dutronc. He published two souvenir books, Un cab dans les étoiles (2014) and Variétés citron pressé (2016), then returned to the Olympia in 2016 for the show Mes Années 80 et Plus..., which resulted in a live album. Under his label, the compilations Discollection (1999), Mes Années Vinyl's (2018) and Best Of - Le Meilleur des Années 80 (2019) are released.
