Belgian variety singer Christian Adam was born on May 14, 1945 in Haine Saint-Paul. His father was a musician, and Christian Adam soon took an interest in piano and dance. Lulled by Charles Trenet and Maurice Chevalier, he was swept along by the yéyé wave, and learned to play the guitar. He made his stage debut as lead singer of Les Mery boys, adopting the nickname Chris Eden. Although most of the songs were covers, Chris also wrote a few original compositions. Urged on by his colleagues, he eventually struck out on his own. He took part in the "Parapluie des Vedettes" in 1968 in Huy, and met publisher and producer Jean Darlier, who recorded his first rock-sounding 45T, "Monsieur le magicien". Although the beginnings were timid, things soon accelerated when Chris Eden took part in a competition organized by RTBF, on the model of The Voice, where he returned to sing for several weeks. One thing led to another, and he met musicians and producers. In April 1973, he released " Si tu savais combien je t'aime ", a single that sold over a million copies. It crossed Belgium's borders, and was played over and over again on Europe 1, galas and television. At the end of the same year, "Tu sais si bien dire je t'aime" was just as successful. He became a celebrity in Turkey, where he performed in the late 1970s, while his success faded in France and Belgium. With the arrival of the compact disc, the Ariola Express label released his greatest hits in 1989. In 1998, he released a piano-vocal album, Vie Privée. A new best-of came out in 2007, entitled Depuis, Si Tu Savais. This will be his last release, as Christian Adam passed away on November 10, 2014.
