The post hardcore metal band Alesana were formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2004 and have become a popular band among the metalcore and emo fraternity. Unashamedly drawing on influences from outside their chosen genre, trace elements of The Beatles and other classic bands can be detected within their music as well as more predictable sources such as Smashing Pumpkins. The band opened their recording career with an EP in 2005 titled 'Try This With Your Eyes Closed' but it wasn't until the release of their debut album 'On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax' that audiences began to sit up and take notice. The band went on to release five full length studio albums although none of their subsequent albums have received the same level of critical acclaim as their debut. Their music has been described variously as metal, screamo, emo, metalcore and post hardcore but the band have christened their own genre to describe their material and claim it be 'sweetcore' due to the more accessible nature of their songs when compared to other bands in similar genres.
