Formed in North Carolina in 2021, the Appalachian Smoke band brings together musicians from different regions: Mikel Laws (vocals, guitar, banjo) grew up in the state in Bryson, Jamie Mason (vocals, guitar, banjo) hails from Culberson, Kenneth Rymer (vocals, dobro) hails from Crandall, Georgia, where he was part of the local scene for thirty years, BJ Taylor (vocals, mandolin) from Nantahala and Tim Williams (double bass, vocals) from Robinsville. In 2022, the band's first self-produced album, Colder Side of Love, rallied fans of American roots music, from bluegrass to Appalachian folk, and the song "Carolina Calling Me" enjoyed some success, appearing at #2 on Cashbox's bluegrass chart. From then on, Appalachian Smoke attracted an ever-growing audience, and it was under Mountain Fever Records that her untitled second opus was released, reaching #7 in the national bluegrass charts in 2024.
