American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Thea Taylor uses the moniker carolesdaughter to transmute her turbulent life experiences into a DIY melange of music styles. Hailing from Southern California, Taylor grew up in a Mormon household and attended several high schools before eventually deciding to drop out. During that time, she broadened her musical horizons by listening to punk, hardcore, and goth. After developing a drug habit that cost her multiple trips to rehab, she decided to pursue a career in music. Preceded by the trap-tinged “PORCELAIN JESUS” and the glitchy chaos of “BRAT,” lo-fi bedroom pop single “Violent” went viral in 2020 and made its way into the Top 50 Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs, peaking at Number 48.
