New Years Day

New Years Day's mix of punk-pop and gothic, dramatic alt-rock began taking shape in 2005, when the group formed in Anaheim, California. Bassist Adam Lohrbach, singer Ashley Costello, and guitarist/keyboardist Keith Drover were the group's original members, although the lineup had already begun to shift by the time New Years Day released its debut single, "Ready Aim Misfire," in 2006. The song reappeared one year later on My Dear, the band's first full-length release. My Dear featured contributions from members of Reel Big Fish and Motion City Soundtrack, and New Years Day appeared on compilations like 2008's Beyond the Blue, Vol. 2 and Headlines and Headstones in the wake of its release. Another album, Victim to Villain, followed in 2013, along with a summer's worth of appearances on the Vans Warped Tour. The touring paid off, pushing the group's 2015 release, Malevolence, to Number 45 on the Billboard 200 and Number 8 on the Top Rock Albums chart. Unbreakable followed in 2019, with the lead single "Shut Up" climbing to Number 17 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Another song from the same album, "Come for Me," reached the Top 40 of the same chart, and New Years Day scored yet another Top 40 mainstream rock hit with 2022's "Hurts Like Hell."
