Formed by husband and wife Courtney LaPlante and Mike Stringer, Spiritbox is a Canadian metal band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The pair also played together in an American metalcore band named Iwrestledabearonce before founding Spiritbox in 2016. Combining progressive metal with other styles such as metalcore and djent, they made their debut in 2017 with an eponymous EP released via Consumer Records. The following year, Spiritbox issued the singles “Perennial,” “Electric Cross,” and “Trust Fall.” The EP Singles Collection arrived in 2019, followed by the 2020 singles “Blessed Be” and “Holly Roller,” which received heavy airplay on alternative metal radio and accumulated over 1.5 million views on their video-sharing channel. In December 2020, Spiritbox issued the single “Constance,” dedicated to LaPlante's grandmother. Early 2021 saw the release of the song “Circle with Me,” an ethereal yet hard-hitting track that peaked at number 50 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart and preceded the release of their highly-anticipated studio debut, Eternal Blue, later that year. Produced by Dan Braunstein and Mike Stringer, the album received universal critical acclaim and topped the Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Rock Albums charts in the United States. Over the next few years, the pair issued their third extended play Rotoscope in 2022, and a fourth one titled The Fear of Fear that entered the Billboard 200 at number 116.
