Carolina del Pilar Gaitán Lozano (April 4, 1984), better known as Carolina Gaitán, is a Colombian actress and singer. Born in the city of Villavicencio, she studied at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York and gained notoriety after winning the music reality program Popstars in 2002. Her experience on the show led to a brief yet successful stint as part of the girl group Escarcha, which released two albums before disbanding in 2004. After the group’s breakup, Carolina Gaitán went on to make her acting debut on the soap opera Gabriela, Giros del Destino in 2009, followed by an appearance on Nickelodeon’s teenage telenovela Isa TK+ as the show’s main antagonist, Catalina Bernabeu. In the subsequent years, she landed a handful of high-profile roles on the series Alias el Mexicano (2013), Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso (2016), and Narcos (2016), and began a new chapter in her music career under the name La Gaita. Some of her most famous singles include “Qué No Se Dice de Mí” (2017), “Vuela” (2018), and “El Primer Beso” (2020). In 2021, Carolina Gaitán lent her voice to the animated Disney movie Encanto, in which she played the role of Pepa Madrigal. She also contributed to the film’s original soundtrack with the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”
