ChouCho

The Japanese singer ChouCho was born in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, on June 21. Introduced to the iconic pop songs of the Beatles by her father, she grew up in a musical household and later discovered alternative artists like Alanis Morissette and Bjork. Inspired, she began releasing songs of her own in 2011, scoring Top 40 hits on the Oricon charts with "Kawaru Mirai" (which was used as the theme for the anime television show Heaven's Memo Pad) and "Authentic Symphony" that same year. Both songs were released under her original alias of "Butterfly," as was her 2011 debut album, Lapis. One year later, the single "The Reason For Kindness marked her first time recording music under the ChouCho moniker. Flyleaf, her first full-length album as ChouCho, was released that same year and charted at Number 31 in Japan. Secretgarden followed in 2013. Meanwhile, ChouCho continued releasing singles in partnership with various anime productions, including 2014's "Ano Sora ni Kaeru Mirai de" (from the anime TV series Buddy Complex), 2014's "Natsu no Hi to Kimi no Koe" (from Glasslip), and 2015's "Piece of Youth" (from the film Girls und Panzer der Film). She then reached a new peak on the Oricon charts with her 2016 compilation, ChouCho Collection "bouquet", which climbed to Number 17. Color of Time followed in 2018, although its handful of singles — including "Asterism," "Elemental World," and "Kaleidoscope/Usubeni no Tsuki" — all failed to crack the Top 40. Pushing ahead, ChouCho released the standalone singles "Orange Iro" in 2018 and "Haiiro no Saga" in 2020.
