Chris Tomlin is one of the most successful contemporary Christian musicians of the twenty-first century. Born in Grand Saline, Texas, on May 4, 1972, he learned to play the guitar as a child and began to write songs of worship as a teenager. Following the regional release of two independent albums, he made his national debut with The Noise We Make in 2001. The following year, Not to Us went to number 13 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums Chart, with 2004's Arriving reaching number 3. Arriving's biggest singles, "Holy is the Lord" and "How Great is Our God," became Tomlin's first two songs to top the Christian charts, followed by more than 10 additional number 1 hits during the next 15 years. Among those chart-topping songs were "Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)" and the Grammy-nominated "Our God," both of which went platinum in America. In 2018, Tomlin released his fifteenth album, Holy Roar, and became the first Christian artist to be presented with the Pandora Billionaire Award, recognizing his achievement of accumulating 1 billion streams on Pandora. Chris Tomlin & Friends followed in 2020, featuring collaborations with artists like Lady A and Florida Georgia Line. Despite receiving mixed reviews, 2022's back-to-basics worship project Always extended Chris Tomlin's winning streak, climbing to number 2 on Billboard's Christian Music chart. "Holy Forever," the album's third single, proved particularly successful, achieving pole position on both the Christian Airplay and Christian AC charts and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
