After spending six years as a small independent Christian faith band, the Texas-based five piece rock ensemble MercyMe signed to INO Records and hit the big time. Their debut big label single “I Can Only Imagine” taken from the album Almost There (2001) was a surprise crossover hit and its success lifted the LP to double-platinum status. Although Almost There remains their most successful release to date, four follow-up albums went gold and the band had 13 consecutive Top 5 singles in the Billboard Chart, seven of them reaching Number 1. Numerous Dove Awards and Grammy nominations followed and the band became one of the most popular Christian rock bands on the US touring circuit. The secret of MercyMe's success lies in their wide audience appeal - they can write finely-crafted, chart-topping ballads and yet effortlessly go back to their indie rock roots playing with an almost grunge feel, all the while delivering a religious message. It's a combination that has made them one of the most successful Christian crossover acts of modern times. In 2021, almost twenty years after their big breakthrough, MercyMe released Inhale (Exhale), an astonishing 16-track album that rocked the US Christian charts with the anthemic single “Almost Home.”
