Kim Ji-woo (born on October 20, 1993 in Cheongju, North Chungcheong, South Korea) (known as Chuu) is a South Korean singer and television personality. Before she could speak English, Chuu would listen to Beyonce’s hit single “Halo” , and inspired by her mother who is also a vocalist, Chuu took up music at a young age with the song becoming her trademark audition piece. Studying performing arts at Hanlim Multi Art School, Chuu’s music education also included traineeships at FNC Academy, The Music Works and Blockberry Creative, before she was invited to join 12-member South Korean girl group Loona in December 2017, releasing her self-titled single album Chuu ahead of the group’s debut, reaching number 8 on the Gaon charts. Performing with Loona sub-unit yyxy, their top 5 debut EP Beauty & the Beat was released in May 2018, with Chuu making her full Loona debut in August with their EP [ ++] peaking at number 2. Making her debut as an actress and television personality in 2019, Chuu appeared in various web dramas and quiz shows, starring in K-pop inspired television series Running Girls in 2020, awarded best Idol Champ Entertainer at the 2020 APAN Music Awards. Setting up her own agency in 2022, Chuu began releasing music as a solo artist, collaborating with South Korean rapper B.I on “Lullaby” in June 2022, releasing two more singles in September and October; “One and a Half”, and “Confession”, which featured in the 2022 film Similar.
