Born on January 31, 1939 in Lac-Saguay (Canada), Claude Gauthier is a Quebec folk singer. In 1959, he won first prize in the Les Étoiles de demain radio contest with his composition " Le Soleil brillera demain ", which he recorded as a 45 rpm a few months later. He released his first LP in 1961, Claude Gauthier Chante Claude Gauthier . The following year, he toured the boîtes à chansons of Quebec, Ontario, New York and New Orleans. That same year, his song " Le Grand six pieds " won a prize for best Canadian composition at Montreal radio station CKAC's Grand Prix du disque canadien. In 1965, he launched the play " Marie-Noël ", which became a holiday classic. In 1966, he starred in Michel Brault's film Entre la Mer Et l'Eau Douce . He also composed the original music for the film Geneviève . The following year, he took part in the show Vive le Québec at the Olympia in Paris with Clémence Desrochers, Pauline Julien and Gilles Vigneault. In 1972, he recorded his album Le Plus Beau Voyage in France, and was chosen by the Radi0-Canada television network to represent Canada at the international contest in Spa, Belgium, where he sang the songs " Le Plus beau voyage " and " Pour l'amour ". In 1973, he released the compilation Les Grands Succès de Claude Gauthier . Claude Gauthier takes part in the 1978 albums Mon Fils by Félix Leclerc, for the song " La Nuit du 15 novembre ", and Les Chants Aimés by Fabienne Thibeault, with whom he sings the duet " Quand nous serons vieux ". In 1985, he toured with Claude Léveillée and Pierre Létourneau in a show called Trois Fois Chantera. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he acted in several feature films and TV series, including Bombardier and Chambres En Ville . In 1998, he produced his album Jardins with Daniel Lavoie. In 2000, he received the SOCAN Lifetime Achievement Award. In November 2012, to celebrate his half-century career, he released 50 Ans Plus Loin . This was followed by other albums in subsequent years, including D'Amour Et de Tendresse in 2016, 80 Ans Et 60 Ans de Chansons in 2018 and Aux Enfants de Demain in 2020. Just before the 2022 holiday season, he releases the single " Noël des petits de la Terre " on December 9.
