Fernando Express is a pop band from Germany. The band was founded in 1969 as Die Skippies. Josef Eisenhut, Hans Olbert and Klaus Lorenz initially performed as a trio at local festivals in their home state of Baden-Württemberg. This increases their popularity. It was not until 1982 that the band changed its name to Fernando Express. The band's marketing became increasingly professional. In 1984, Fernando Express released their first single, "Sommer, Sonne, Liebe". The following year, the band released their first studio album, Montego Bay. At the beginning of the 1990s, Birgit Langer joins the band as a singer. As a quartet, Fernando Express took part in the German Song Festival in 1991. The group reached 3rd place with the song "Flüsterndes Herz", and Fernando Express became known throughout Germany as a result of their success. Their fame increases in 1994, when they reach 9th place at the German Schlager Festival with the song "Copacabana". During this time, the singles "Canzone di luna" (1993) and "Capitano" (1994) reach positions in the German charts. The band now regularly releases albums. Their music is played on the well-known pop radio stations. In 2008, Fernando Express entered the German album charts for the first time with the album Meer der Zärtlichkeit (Sea of Tenderness ) at number 86. Almost ten years later, their album Träume sind für alle da (2017) climbed to number 13 in Germany. With number 19 in Austria and number 50 in Switzerland, she enters other country charts for the first time. In the same year, the compilation Das Beste reached number 7 in the German top 10. Fernando Express celebrated their biggest success to date in 2022 with the album Komm, wir feiern das Leben. The longplayer climbed to number 4 in the German album charts. It also achieved top placings in Austria (16th place) and Switzerland (25th place). After the album Der schönste Tanz mit dir (2023, number 18 in Germany), Fernando Express announced their retirement after more than 50 years on stage. They send their fans a final musical greeting with the best-of album Die große Abschieds-Kollektion in 2024. The compilation reaches number 59 in the German charts.
