In 2004, Florent Marchet, who had just released his debut album Gargilesse , and novelist Arnaud Cathrine met at the Manosque literary festival. The former loved to read, while the latter dreamed of returning to the music he had practiced as a teenager, finding a keyboard and the use of his voice. Together, they performed several musical readings, including songs by Florent Marchet based on excerpts from Arnaud Cathrine's novels. Both concerts and readings, these hybrid performances inspired them to create a work in its own right, at the crossroads of French chanson and literature. Thus was born the "book-album" Frère Animal, written by four hands in 2008, with the help of Valérie Leulliot, singer with the group Autour de Lucie, and Nicolas Martel, member of the group Las Ondas Martelas. They presented a show and then went their separate ways, until Frère Animal resurfaced six years later with Second Tour, featuring two new guest vocalists, François Morel and Bernard Lavilliers.
