The US rapper Alonzo Mathis rose to fame under the stage name Gorilla Zoe when he joined the well-known rap group Boyz N Da Hood following the success of their self-titled debut album when it topped the US rap charts in 2005. In June 2007 Mathis released his first solo single 'Hood Figga' which made the Top 40 in the Billboard Hot 100 and later that year his debut album 'Welcome to the Zoo' reached number three in Billboard's rap album charts. By the time his third album titled 'King Kong' was released the artist's popularity had begun to fade and the album failed to make the top 50 in the Billboard 200. Mathis disappeared off the mainstream rap scene for a couple of years and then re-emerged in 2014 with the mixtape 'Recovery' and subsequently signed to Flo Rida's International Music Group Label. The rapper is currently operating as an independent artist and made the headlines in 2019 after being arrested for domestic battery following an altercation with his girlfriend.
