Electro pop band Gunship was formed by the Northampton-born singer-guitarist Alex Westaway in 2010. Westaway had previously risen to prominence when he formed the band Fightstar with school friend Dan Haigh. Haigh and Westaway went on to release three albums together under the Fightstar banner before announcing the band was on hiatus and the duo re-emerged with a new venture called Gunship. They later added long term friend and close collaborator Alex Gingell to the line-up and have continued as a trio with all members able to tackle various instrumental roles but with musical support provided by artists such as Lou Hayter of New York Pony Club, Charlie Simpson from Busted and singer-songwriter Martin Grech. The band create synth based pop music with elements of rock thrown in and rely on a battery of equipment to create their distinctive sounds. Their 2015 self-titled debut album was universally praised by music critics and their 2018 follow up 'Dark All Day' topped the US Heat and the UK Dance charts.
