The indie-rock singer/songwriter Indigo De Souza was born in 1995 in Spruce Hill, North Carolina. The town's culture proved to be too conservative for the Souza family, and Indigo moved to Asheville with her parents when she was a teenager. A prolific musician at a young age, she released her self-produced debut EP, Boys, in 2016, followed by another EP, Don't Cry Just Do, in 2017. The full-length album I Love My Mom followed in 2018, with Souza initially releasing album on her own label. The resulting popularity earned her a contact with the Saddle Creek label, resulting in a reissued version of I Love My Mom in 2021. Working with producer Brad Cook, she began working on a second full-length effort, Any Shape You Take, whose songs made room for grunge, pop, and alternative rock influences. Critically acclaimed by websites and magazines alike, Any Shape You Take also spawned Indigo De Souza's first radio hit, "Hold U," which peaked at Number 38 on the Billboard Top Alternative Songs in America in February 2022.
