Cantopop star Janice Vidal, sometimes credited as Janice M. Vidal or just Janice, was born April 13, 1982 in Hong Kong. She began her career in 2005 on the Amusic label with Day & Night, an album made entirely of covers of songs previously recorded by Hong Kong pop star Leon Lai. In 2006 she released Do U Know which included a cover of the signature Diana Ross song “Do You Know Where You’re Going To”. She also won multiple industry awards for Best New Female Singer that year, and appeared in a movie, A Melody Looking, that was directed by Leon Lai. While her albums to this point all fixtured a mixture of Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, 2009’s Morning was sung exclusively in English. She would release four more albums for Amusic before jumping to Warner. Tired of the rigidity of the Hong Kong entertainment industry, this move allowed her to take greater control over the songs she recorded. Her Warner debut, Love and Other Things, came out in 2017, and In His Name followed in 2019. An avid painter, Vidal has a twin sister, Jill, who is also a pop star.
