Jorge Villamizar is a Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Colombia. He is also the frontman for Bacilos, a Latin pop band based in Miami, USA. Born in Colombia and raised in Ecuador, he served in the Colombian navy before moving to London, England in 1989 where he busked and played in pubs and clubs. It was in London that he wrote 'Tabaco y Chanel', which would appear on the second, self-titled Bacilos album released in the year 2000. After a spending time in London, Villamizar relocated to Miami where he studied at the University of Miami and joined forces with Puerto Rican Jose Javier Freire and Brazilian André López to form Bacilos. Releasing their eponymous album resulted in a hit for the song that Villamizar had written in England and garnered two Latin Grammy nominations. The band's next album 'Caraluna', released in 2002, produced two more hits in 'Caraluna' and 'Primer Millón' as well as two Latin Grammy awards and one Grammy Award. While in the band, Villamizar was also writing songs for other artists, resulting in a Grammy in 2009 for Best Tropical Song for Luis Enrique and 'Yo No Se Mañana'. Bacilos broke up in 2007 and in 2008 Villamizar released his first self-titled solo album in 2008, following this with 'Alex Jorge Lena' in 2011 as a collaboration with Lena Burke and Alex Ubago. This was followed in 2015 by 'El Dia Que Vuelva' including the single, 'Dificil'. In 2017, Bacilos reformed, releasing 'Por Hacerme el Bueno' in August and following this with '¿Donde Nos Quedamos?' in 2018.
