A star in Italy, where he is the undisputed forerunner of local rap pop, Jovanotti has also built up a substantial international career. Born in Rome on September 27, 1966, Lorenzo Cherubini (his real name) hit number one on his debut in 1988 with the single "Gimme Five". The same year, he scored his first international hit under the pseudonym Gino Latino with "Welcome". This successful start was crowned in 1994 with the album Lorenzo 1994, which reached number one on the peninsula. This honor was then regularly bestowed on albums often featuring a mention of the year of their release in their title. This tradition came to an end in 2002 with Lorenzo 2002 - Il Quinto Mundo, as Jovanotti moved towards a pop style with funk and ska influences. A double platinum disc in Italy, Lorenzo 2015 CC appeared on the US Billboard world chart. Packed with awards and nominations in his home country, the Roman, who summed up his career in the compilation Backup - Lorenzo 1987-2012, released his fourteenth album Oh, Vita! in 2017, produced by Rick Rubin and followed by a stadium tour. Between multiple collaborations in 2019, he tours the beaches with the Jova Beach Party, then begins the new decade with the EP La primavera (2020), followed by another entitled Mediterraneo and the album Il disco del sole in 2022. Back after a bicycle accident, Jovanotti records his 16th album Il corpo umano, Vol. 1, released in 2025.
