Kaye Cal

Kaye Cal is the stage name of Filipino singer-songwriter Karen Jade Cal, who jumped to fame in 2010 after reaching the grand finale of the reality show Pilipinas Got Talent with the group Ezra Band. Born to Christian parents on February 11, 1989, in Davao del Sur, Philippines, she formed the Ezra Band with some friends from her hometown and later participated in the first season of the program Pilipinas Got Talent, wowing both the judges and the audience with cover versions of The Corrs' "Runaway" and Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight." Even though they didn't win the competition, their appearance in the show exposed their music to a wider audience and considerably raised their profile in their home country. After releasing the album Pinoy You Got It, which contained some of the covers performed on the show as well as some original material, the band went on hiatus and Kaye Cal embarked on a solo career. "Isang Araw," her first solo single, saw the light in 2015 and was featured on the compilation OPM Fresh. In 2017, she signed with Star Music and released her eponymous full-length, which helped her win the OPM Revival of the Year category at the 2017 MOR Pinoy Music Awards for the single "Give Me A Chance," as well as a Star Music's Listener's Choice Award for "The Labo Song." The album also featured the hit single "Why Can't It Be," recorded with Maya and Michael Pangilinan.
