Kim Il Du

Kim Il Du (born August 13, 1978, in Busan) is a South Korean folk singer-songwriter known for his deep, emotive music that blends folk, punk, and electronica elements. Before embarking on his solo career, he was a member of several punk bands, including Suspens, The Hustlers, and Genius. His musical journey as a solo artist began in 2011 with the release of his EP No Problem (문제없어요). Kim's debut studio album, A Pretty and Clear Soul (곱고 맑은 영혼), came out in 2013, showcasing his unique style of folk music. His second studio album, Soul of Moon and Star (달과 별의 영혼) in 2015, received critical acclaim, earning a nomination for Best Folk Album at the 2016 Korean Music Awards. The album's poetic exploration of societal themes was praised by critics. Kim continued to expand his artistic range, releasing Dream in Dream (2020) and New Season (2021). He also collaborated on the electronica album I AM NOT I with Kim Changhee and Engler Hashim in 2021. In addition to his solo projects, Kim Il Du formed a band called Kim Il Du and Bulsechul, performing at prestigious festivals like the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival (2022) and Pentaport Rock Festival (2023). He is set to release a live album, KIM, PARK, and TAK, the Vine Hall Live, in 2025.
