Paul Édouard Etoundi Onambélé was born on October 2, 1975 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He first came to public attention at the age of 14, when he took part in a rap festival in 1989. Renamed Krotal for his musical career, he honed his skills with groups such as Anonym and the Magma collective, and in the late 1990s was invited to support Positive Black Soul on major stages. His first official album, Vert rouge jaune, was released in 2003. Blending rap rhythms with traditional Senegalese instruments, the sixteen tracks highlight the daily life of the Senegalese and his observations on the country's social situation. Recognized for this first opus, Krotal was awarded the title of Revelation of the Year in 2004 by the Ministry of Culture and CRTV. A precursor of the Senegalese rap scene in the same vein as Positive Black Soul and Didier Awadi, the rapper appeared as godfather of the Suma Hip Hop festival in Bangui (Central African Republic) in 2009, then took part in Kelly Rowland's single "Everywhere You Go" for the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa. He unveils La B.O. de nos lives, a new album released in 2012, through which he marks more than twenty years of presence in Senegalese music, alongside Pit Baccardi, Sultan Oshimihn and Danielle Eog, and establishes himself as a key figure in the music industry of the early 2000s. A finalist for the RFI Découvertes award in 2014, Krotal presented his third album Cœur de lions, peaux de panthères in 2014, then returned in 2017 with Ouvre les yeux, in collaboration with Ndabott Productions.
