Lisa Mishra is an Indian-American singer-songwriter who rose to international fame in 2018 thanks to a feature on the soundtrack of the Hindi film Veere Di Wedding. Born on August 4, 1994, in Brahmapur, Odisha, she relocated to Chicago, Illinois, with her family when she was still a child. At the age of 13, she created her video-streaming channel and later became involved with the Chicago music scene, participating in projects by celebrated local artists like Chance the Rapper and Jamila Woods, with whom she wrote the theme song to the Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls. In 2018, her mashup of the Hindi song "Tareefan" and DJ Snake's "Let Me Love You" caught the attention of Indian actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, who convinced the producers of the comedy film Veere Di Wedding to include her in the original soundtrack. Later that year, she flew to India and recorded a reprise version of "Tareefan" that became a massive hit and helped her land a deal with the Universal Music India imprint VYRL Originals in 2019. In the following years, Lisa Mishra collaborated with Indian artists Vishal Mishra ("Sajna Ve") and Anish Sood ("Running Back to You") while also appearing in the soundtrack of Hindi films such as The Sky Is Pink (2019) and Liger (2022), whose promotional single "Coka 2.0" peaked at Number 81 on the Indian Top 100.
