Mao Abe is a Japanese singer-songwriter and guitarist who studied music as a child and began writing songs at a young age. She entered regional and national talent contests and began her professional career after moving to Tokyo. Her 2009 debut album 'Free' went to number 17 on the Japan albums chart, 'Pop' (2010) reached number five, 'Su' (2011) number six, 'Tatakai wa Owaranai' number six, 'Anata o Suki na Watashi' (2013) number seven and 'Oppajime!' (2014) number seven. Her 2011 single 'Motto' peaked at number nine on Billboard's Japan Hot 100, 'Soba Ni Ite' (2011) went to number 18, 'Sekai Wa Mada Kimi Wo Shirani' reached number eleven and 'Tatakai Wa Owaranai' number 27. In 2018, she announced that she would release her first greatest hits album and performed concerts across Japan from November through to January 2019. The single 'Kimi No Uta' came out in May 2019 and she was to continue her Japanese tour in June.
