Maria Stader (* November 5, 1911 in Budapest, Austria-Hungary; † April 27, 1999 in Zurich) is a Swiss opera singer with a lyric soprano voice. Born Maria Molnár, she emigrated to Switzerland in 1919 as a result of the First World War. There she began to study singing. in 1939, Maria Stader won first prize in the singing category at the International Music Competition in Geneva. in 1950, she was awarded the "Lilly Lehmann Medal" by the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg. Six years later, the opera singer received the "Silver Mozart Medal" from the same foundation. Since the mid-1950s, she has participated in recordings such as Verdi's Misa de Requiem, Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem and Mozart's Mass in C minor KV 427. in 1964, Maria Stader was awarded the Austrian Federal Cross of Merit. in 1969, the artist retired from singing and devoted herself to training younger singers. Maria Stader died on April 27, 1999.
