Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 in Huntington, Long Island, New York) is a pop, hip-hop and R&B singer, songwriter, producer and actor from the USA. Mariah Carey tried her hand at singing at an early age, supported by her mother and beginning in 1986, initially worked as a background singer. Around that time, the artist also recorded some of her very first songs. Her debut album Mariah Carey was released in 1990 and made the singer a world-famous star in one fell swoop. The album sells over 15 million copies worldwide and reaches number 1 and nine-times platinum status in her home country. Mariah Carey tops her own success with the album Music Box (1993). The longplayer reaches number 1 worldwide and sells over 35 million copies. With her bright, crystal-clear voice, Mariah Carey is now one of the greatest singers of her time. Some of her best-known songs include "Vision Of Love", "Emotions", "Dreamlover", "Hero", "Without You" and "Always Be My Baby". With the Christmas single "All I Want For Christmas Is You", the singer created a real classic in 1994, which is still played every Christmas to this day. The artist has received various music awards for her songs. Her 15th studio album Caution was released in 2018, and Mariah Carey has won the highest award for musicians in the USA, the Grammy Award, several times. The singer last received the award in 2005, winning three times in the categories Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Contemporary R&B Album.
