Organist, harpsichordist and conductor, Masaaki Suzuki is above all the Japanese who is most passionate about Johann Sebastian Bach. When, in 1995, he proposed recording all 234 of Bach's cantatas, no one dared to believe in the project. And yet, with his ensemble, the Bach Collegium Japan, he is about to undertake what is probably the finest complete recording of Bach's cantatas, after those of Helmut Rilling and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
