Harpsichordist and organist, choirmaster and conductor, Rinaldo Alessandrini was born in Rome on January 25, 1960. He studied the piano from the age of fourteen, and turned to the harpsichord because of his taste for Baroque music. After giving his first concert under the direction of Ton Koopman, he founded his own ensemble, Concerto Italiano, in 1984, playing mainly works by Monteverdi and Vivaldi, of which Rinaldo Alessandrini became a specialist. Alongside his harpsichord recordings, he gives numerous concerts around the world and records continuously for the Opus 111 and Naïve labels. Named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in France, he received the Prix Abbiata from Italian critics in his home country, while the British magazine Gramophone awarded him the prize of the same name on three occasions. His biography of Monterverdi was published in 2004.
