Real name Mathieu-Emmanuel Monnaert, Mat Bastard was born on November 7, 1979 in Brussels, Belgium. His first band was Carving. A figurehead of the punk scene in northern France, he went on to lead Skip the Use, a band that gave him the opportunity to express his stage potential. Exuberant and unbridled, the band likes to mix their pop, rock, electro, funk and rock influences with a punk energy. After playing a number of gigs, including support slots for Trust and Rage Against the Machine, the band took part in festivals such as the Main Square Festival and Solidays in the early 2010s. After releasing an EP and an album, the band went on to win the Victoire de la Musique award for "Best Rock Album of the Year" in 2013. After a final album entitled Little Armageddon (2014), Mat Bastard announced in the daily La Voix du Nord that the band would be breaking up in 2016. He immediately took the opportunity to move to Los Angeles and launch a solo career. He immediately released his first single, "More Than Friends ", which preceded by a few months the release of his first album, Loov, in June 2017.
