Oboy

Oboy is the stage name of Mihaja Ramiarinarivo (January 6, 1997), a French rapper who was born in Madagascar and raised in the suburbs of Paris. His pseudonym is a homage to the character of O-Dog in the 1993 film Menace II Society. Oboy was in the collective Way Boto before gaining attention as a solo artist with singles such as “Cobra” and “Cabeleira,” included in his 2018 mixtape Southside. His songs are often melancholic tales of underprivileged life in Paris's housing projects. In 2019, he released his first album Omega, which included the gold-selling single “Je m'en Tape,” a collaboration with R&B singer Aya Nakamura and Dutch rapper Dopebwoy. Even though Omega reached Number 13 on the French Albums Chart, it was just a taste of things to come. Spearheaded by the hit single “Cabeza,” his 2020 EP Mafana surpassed its predecessor’s commercial success, selling over 2,200 copies in the first week of its release. After collaborating with British singer Jorja Smith on a remix of the song “Come Over” and releasing the non-album single “Tonight,” Oboy returned in 2021 with a 14-track album titled No Crari. That year, the album opener “Louis V” cracked the French Top 10, placing at Number 8.
