Oruam, born Mauro Davi dos Santos Nepomuceno on March 1, 2001, in Rio de Janeiro, emerged in Brazil’s trap scene with his debut track "Invejoso," featuring Chefin, Jhowzin, and Raffé. His rapid rise led to a 2022 signing with Orochi’s Mainstreet label, where he gained massive traction with viral hits, earning the "Revelation of Trap" award from Sobre Funk that same year. Rooted in the Cidade de Deus favela, his music blends personal narratives with street authenticity, amassing millions of streams across platforms. In 2024, his performance at Lollapalooza drew controversy after he wore a shirt advocating for his imprisoned father, Marcinho VP, a former leader of Comando Vermelho. By early 2025, Oruam faced further scrutiny when a São Paulo councilwoman proposed legislation against events promoting crime, triggering backlash from his fanbase. His arrest in February 2025 for reckless driving in Barra da Tijuca sparked speculation about a staged incident for his album Liberdade, announced hours after his release. Amid media frenzy, Oruam denied using marketing tactics, maintaining that his actions reflect his reality. Released later that month, his debut album Liberdade featured a long list of collaborators, including Mc Poze do Rodo, Victor WAO, Orochi, DJ Murillo no Beat, Borges, Chefin, and many more.
