The Chilean reality TV contestant Paloma Mami was born Paloma Rocío Astorga Castle in 1999 in Manhattan, New York. She studied music and art whilst being schooled in the US prior to moving to Chile when she was 16. Castle entered the Chilean reality show 'Rojo, The Colour of the Talent' whilst simultaneously releasing an independent single titled 'Not Steady'. After participating in the programme for two weeks Castle withdrew citing adverse contractual arrangements as the reason for her withdrawal. It proved to be a savvy decision because the initial publicity generated by the show helped garner a large following for 'Not Steady' on YouTube which was instrumental in persuading Sony to sign her. The follow-up singles to 'Not Steady' have been 'No te Enamores' and 'Fingías', both of which have been successful in the Chilean charts accruing numerous industry awards and cementing Castle's reputation as one of Chile's most significant emerging musical talents.
