Englishman Photek is one of the great names in drum & bass, a genre to which he gave one of his masterpieces in 1997 with Modus Operandi. Photek started out around 1992, with a style initially influenced by ambient. His conversion to drum & bass made him an important figure in the movement, Photek releasing Solaris (2000) after Modus Operandi. Based in Los Angeles (California), Photek didn't confine himself to drum & bass, reaching number one on the Billboard dance chart with the deep house track "Mine to Give" in 2001. Photek then focused mainly on remix work, releasing tracks only sparingly. In 2011, Photek returns with a series of EPs, Avalanche, Aviator, and Closer. At the beginning of 2012, Photek took part in the famous DJ Kicks series, which has seen all the greats of the electro world pass through its doors.
