Pong Nan is a Cantopop artist and actor who was born in Hong Kong on May 15, 1978. He spent most of his formative years between Canada and Hong Kong and later studied international politics at Georgetown University in the United States. After graduating in 2000, Pong Nan returned to Hong Kong and made a name for himself as a songwriter, penning hits for pop singers Jacky Cheung ("Sound from Above") and Joey Yung ("Mad About You"). The Unadorable Pong Nan, his studio debut, appeared in 2004, followed by Almost Happy (2005), and The Sounds of Tide (2006). Even though these albums didn't perform as expected, he did manage to achieve a great deal of critical success with his autobiographical EP trilogy Nan/Blue (2008), Yik (2008), and Pong (2009), all released via East Asia Music. However, it was his 2012 digital single "Cheers" that finally broke him into the mainstream, reaching Number 1 on the 903 and TVB charts and positioning him as one of the most promising talents in the competitive Cantopop scene. His winning streak continued in the following years with other chart-toppers such as "You Are So London, I Am So New York" and "Let's Go to Alaska," as well as the album Caress (2014), his first release for the Cinepoly label. Preceded by the Number 1 hit single "Lover," Caress became a critical and commercial success, selling over 10,000 copies in just 3 months and receiving gold certification shortly after. Following an extended break from the music industry, the Cantopop singer returned to the charts in 2022 with the single "Self Aware," a joint effort with Tang Siu Hau that cracked the Top 10 of the Cantonese Singles Chart.
