Born in 1986 under the impetus of Éric Goulet (vocals, guitar), Luc Lemire (saxophone, harmonica), Nicolas Jouannaut (bass) and Olivier Renaldin (drums), Possession Simple was part of the Canadian rock scene of the late 1980s/1990s. With their first album, Guerre d'usure, released in 1992, the band expressed themselves in the vein of French alternative rock, while remaining sensitive to the desire for freedom of the style's great American hits. The thirteen tracks are rooted in this tradition of escapism, explicit in "S'exiler" and "Perdre la raison". After performing, the band re-recorded and presented a second album, Cru, in 1994. However, Possession Simple broke up two years later, in 1996, leaving three of its members (Éric Goulet, Nicolas Jouannaut and Olivier Renaldin) to re-form a trio called Les Chiens. Active from 1997, this reconfiguration became more permanent and took the place of Possession Simple. In 2013, however, the trio reassembled for Les FrancoFolies de Montréal, to the delight of long-time fans who revived the hit songs from Cru and the emblematic single "Comme un cave".
