US soul singer and songwriter Sammie struck gold with his 2000 debut album, From the Bottom to the Top, making it to Number 27 on the US Billboard 200 chart and spawning a signature hit in its 1999 lead single, "I Like It." Born Sammie Lee Bush, Jr. on March 1, 1987 in Boynton Beach, Florida, the burgeoning singer first drew attention in 1998 for his winning rendition of Stevie Wonder's "My Cheri Amour" on America's televised variety show, Showtime at the Apollo. Bush landed a deal with Capitol Records and released his debut album, later taking time out to finish high school before releasing his sophomore album, Sammie, in 2006 via Dallas Austin's Rowdy Records. The LP reached Number 42 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured production muscle from Bryan Michael Cox, Jazze Pha, Daron Jones, Adonis Shropshire, Novel and Austin himself. In 2008, Bush was featured on rapper Soulja Boy's hit single "Kiss Me thru the Phone," which peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Bush a BET Awards nomination in 2009. He went on to release another three studio albums, including Such Is Life... in 2020.
